7 Health Tips to Up Your Dating Game

When I started dating after my divorce, I remember making a conscious decision to live healthier.

Not only did I want to find an awesome, beautiful woman; but I also wanted to make sure that I was happy within myself. If I wanted my next relationship to work I needed confidence, energy and sound emotional wellbeing.

As a health writer I knew enough about nutrition & exercise to put my new goal into practice. So I did.

Two years down the line I can say that all my efforts were worth it. I’ve lost weight, feel more energetic and my skin & eyes are brighter than they were in my twenties.

Now I’d like to share some of these health strategies with you. If you’re currently on the dating scene and want to up your game, adopt the following habits and get that confidence boost you need to find your lobster.


Let’s Talk About Confidence

I’d choose confidence over looks any day!

Your most valuable asset while dating is confidence. People pick up on your vibes and they can sense—whether consciously or subconsciously—when you’re nervous, happy, sad or angry.

Confidence isn’t something that can be faked. You either have it or you don’t. Men and women are attracted to confidence. It’s just biology.

The good news is you can increase your confidence in several ways.


More Oxygen in Your Blood

Something I did when I started dating again was 30-minute cardio workouts at the gym. I was amazed at how great I felt after spending half an hour on the exercise bike.

I didn’t do it to lose weight. I did it because it increased my oxygen levels and gave me a massive confidence boost.

Oxygen has a way of making us feel elated. That kind of confidence is invaluable on a date. Give it a try.


Breathing and Meditation

Another great way to get oxygen into your blood (and brain) is through mindfulness exercises.

I have found that meditation is a huge help in balancing out my thoughts and reminding me to stop & breath.

A mere fifteen minutes of meditation twice a week will do wonders for your health, your mind and your confidence!


Your Skin

When it comes to attraction, your skin plays a huge part.

Three of our five senses will engage in the skin of our partners:

  • The look of their skin
  • The smell of their skin
  • The feeling of their skin


The Look

There’s nothing more attractive than beautiful skin. It’s the first things that draw us to be attracted to someone.

How does your skin look right now?

Dry weather, excessive sun and an unhealthy diet can make some of us look older than we really are.

But I’m going to give you some brief tips that will give your skin a healthy, youthful glow. Are you ready?

  • Rub a small amount of coconut oil on your face before going to bed. Coconut oil is especially important during dry winter months. Apply it three times a week and you will notice a difference before long.
  • Eat Omega-rich foods and healthy fats like salmon, raw almonds, avocado and butter. These foods will feed your skin from the inside, giving you a healthier glow.
  • If you’re outdoors a lot use sun protection. Too much sun has been proven to accelerate ageing, so remember your sunscreen.


The Smell

Your skin emits a natural odor all day and all night. Whether we bath or cover ourselves with deodorant, our natural smells always come through.

Sweating is a great way to get impurities out of the blood. Drinking lots of water refreshes the skin and makes it smell more pleasant.

If you sweat regularly, you’ll have fewer problems with unpleasant body odors. So whether you prefer working out at the gym, going for a run or simply sitting in a sauna—get those sweat glands pumping!


The Feeling

Skin should be soft. A guy can have bulging muscles and rock hard abs, but his skin should always be well taken care of.

Roughness of the skin is caused by lack of moisture. It can occur on our arms & legs, our feet, our hands and our faces.

While there are many commercial products out there that provide moisturizing products, I have found that natural products are far more effective and long lasting.

Here are some of my favorites:

  • Coconut oil
  • Vitamin E oil
  • Bee’s wax rub
  • Shea butter


Energy Levels

Dating is more tiring than you think.

Energy will be your greatest ally while you date. Energy keeps you confident and social while you search for your perfect match.


Foods that give you long term energy are:

  • Eggs
  • Oats
  • Almonds
  • Brown rice or
  • Whole-wheat pasta
  • Sunflower seeds


Foods that give you short term energy boosts (without the inevitable crash) are:

  • Fruit
  • Celery
  • Lemon water
  • Green tea

So whether you want to create a general high energy version of yourself or simply need a quick boost before your date, these foods will respectively help you do both.


Don’t Forget About Libido

It’s a known fact that oysters increase the libido.

But what about other foods for those of us who don’t eat oysters—or can’t afford them?

For your pleasure, I’ve listed 8 foods that increase your libido. You’re welcome:

  • Broccoli (Lightly steamed with a touch of salt & pepper)
  • Dark chocolate (that’s high in cocoa)
  • Celery (yep, again)
  • Garlic (raw if you’re brave, but just as good if it’s cooked into your food)
  • Organic bananas
  • Avocado (add a teaspoon of olive oil and get an extra libido kick)
  • Beans (especially red kidney beans)
  • Humus (because chickpeas are one of nature’s libido enhancers)


Emotional Clarity

Here’s one you may not have thought of. But it’s super important.

Food that feeds your brain will create an inertia of being in a healthy mental state over time. Omega-rich foods are your winners here.

Fish oils in salmon are excellent for the brain and help you to process information faster. This will help you play the dating game so much better because your brain is functioning optimally.

Yes, yes… I know that eggs are a touchy subject because everyone likes their eggs a certain way. Eggs in the morning will also prepare you for the day. So however you like your eggs, get them in somehow. But if you’re looking for the healthiest way to consume eggs, soft poached is your winner.

If you’re not getting enough omega-rich foods through your diet, consider supplementing this with fish oil capsules.


What About the Do?

For guys and girls, hair is super important. It’s one of the first things I notice when I meet someone new.

For strong, shiny hair you should be eating these delicious snacks:

  • A handful of raw almonds
  • Sushi
  • Eggs
  • Avocados
  • Cottage cheese

The oils and nutrients in these foods feed your hair and keep it looking good for your next date.


Kissy Breath

Last but definitely not least, your breath. There are several ways to keep your breath fresh—and no, toothpaste isn’t one of them!

If you’re looking for a quick breath freshener and you’re in a hurry, go for the apple cider vinegar. Dilute some in two parts water and take a big sip.

Swirl it around in your mouth for about a minute. The vinegar will kill bacteria that causes bad breath and your mouth will smell (and taste) completely neutral for a long time after.

Another quick way to clean your mouth naturally if you don’t have time to brush your teeth is by eating a granny smith apple. The natural sugar and acid in this fruit will cleanse your mouth and prepare you for that possible first kiss.
